The Silver Strand (An Tra Bhan in Irish)  is a horse shoe shaped beach situated at Malin Beg, near Glencolmcille, in south west Co. Donegal. It is one of the most dramatic beaches in Donegal and one of our personal favourites and no photograph will ever do justice to the beauty of this beach.  The drive here is scenic and takes a while if you are coming from Donegal Town (90 mins approx)  but the reward is well worth it.  The beach is reached by a series of steep steps. The beach features in the film ‘The Railway Station Man’ (1992) starring Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland. You can lose yourself on this beach and make your worries fly away.

Accessibility

Access from a car park but down 170 steep steps. Not for those with a weak heart or vertigo but if you can make the journey down do it  you will not be disappointed.
